PS To check whether the track is intact, pull the leads off of terminals 58 and 58b. Stick your meter (low ohms range) on 58/58b and twiddle the knob. If the reading jumps around or shows an open circuit, the track has had it.
If you're not worried about dimming the dash lights, connect them to the side light feed on the headlamp switch so they come on with the lights.
