It’s the smallest saving really when I think how much my van has cost over 15 years if ownership but I got my new logbook back today and confirmation of historic tax class. As my van was registered in 79 it wouldn’t let the post office just update the logbook so I had to send the following to the taxation team at the DVLA: Covering letter Current MOT V5c V12 form Heritage letter from Vw Took about 14 days and free VED already applied! Happy days Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Still waiting for my V5C back from the DVLA but their website shows me as taxed and I paid nothing at the Post Office
I know this topic got a bit tedious but, I thought you could only qualify for Historic Vehicle status at present if your bus was built before 1st Jan 1979, or registered before 8th January 1979, and it then rolls on each full year. My bus was built 8th Feb 79, so I’ve been expecting that it’ll come tax free at the end of the year. It’s an import btw so not registered in UK until 2002. But @illzlee you’ ve got yours Historic already. How come?
They should be but they set the threshold at January so unless you get a birth certificate from vw to prove it was made in the previous year but not registered til later then you have to wait til jan 2020 for 79 buses.
Not speaking from authority here but wasn’t there talk of not giving imported vehicles historic exemption ?
As far as I know there were none manufactured in the UK; they were all imported from somewhere at some time. Am I wrong?
Maybe I’m splitting hairs but I’m trying to understand why (and how) a bus imported direct from Germany should be treated differently to one imported from some other country.
I don't think it should make any difference either tbh. It's probably to do with them being made specifically for the UK market as apposed to another country and paying continual UK road fund tax throughout their life.
I don't think there is anything that says the government isn't allowing historic vehicle status to vehicles which came from overseas either as new or later in life. The only criteria are date of construction or date of registration.
