Way back when I was at the art college in Plymouth, a mere innocent 19 years of age and just left home, there was an older woman on the course (she may even have been in her 30s!!!!) who was just a bit more cultured than the rest of us. One day when we had to go out photographing a 'moving object' (early in the course and very basic!) she suggested me and a mate head round to her boyfriend's place as he had a quad bike we could mess around on and use for the photographs. We hopped in her rather dilapidated 2CV and headed off into Cornwall. Swerving down the narrow lanes, bouncing off the hedges, and we arrived at.... Port Elliot! Her boyfriend turned out to be the 10th Earl of St Germans. It was a great day, and we did have fun messing about on the quad bike, but I never quite got over that initial shock! Nice pad though (Edit: just seen he died a couple of weeks back)
That's him. Peregrine. Was her name Catherine? He sounded a major dude. Plymouth uni is a big presence here (unlike wifi!). Loads of great, proper craft (wood, leather, clay .... and lots of workshops to have a go) and art. I'm parked up on one of the highest fields facing the lovely house and estuary, and juat 20 yards away from me is a cordoned off area (plastic tape, nothing fancy) is a fresh grave covered in wilting flowers. It has to be him. And if it is, how cool is that? To be buried with a 'view' over this beautiful valley and the lovely old house and church therein? PS am still at the Sipsmith gin tent.
While I'm here with a signal, can you beat this, @Mattlad ? Ok it won't upload. But it's pic of a vendor of organic, fair-trade..... Candy floss. The world is safe tonight.
It sounds rather nice, I might have to venture down next year... especially if there's a Sipsmiths tent! My art college friend was Liz Williams, I think she moved from being 'girlfriend' to 'unpopular 2nd wife' according to his obit. She was a great character and certainly livened up our diploma course, but didn't quite fit as the wife of an Earl apparently! PS is there a Plymouth Gin tent too? Or is that just a bit too common
Do posh folk usually take sheep to festivals?! Sick of rogering each each other's bottom.s I suppose, move on to the beasts
Your money is the same as theirs and you are at the same place as them, so, just be yourself and enjoy.
Ha - we set off tomorrow. And we are set. Fairy lights are installed on fake radio flyer trolley. We have Facepaints and glitter. The kids are now call Toby and Tabitha. And, AND wait for it, you'll never guess..... We are taking cassoulet for dinner..... The transformation is complete.....
That's OK northern chap - they do let your type in - I was talking to a fellow from Cheltenham last year.
