    You'll be wanting a type 1 engine.
There's a few on VZi at the moment.

They break quite easily as you've found out. Can't expect people to give them away, but if time wasn't the enemy, you'd eventually find a bare engine for £3-400

  5. Not expecting it for free dude but £1200 seems a bit expensive too me £3-£400 is more realistic :)

    Heads are £170 a throw and there's 2. A new case is £600.
so £340 for 2 heads. Expecting to get a whole engine for this amount? If you find one it'll be a risker, not a rebuilt one.
Saying that, EliteVW will sell you a reconditioned engine with 12 months warrenty for £575 which is pretty well unbeatable.

  7. Thats worth knowing, thanks for the heads up :)

  8. How about a 2 litre pancake engine? And it's in Stafford

The links on this post are the same engines .

  13. Will bear that in mind... Can somebody explain turnkey? !

  14. Turnkey means bolt it in, connect it up and turn the key. ie: its complete and ready to go. Some peoples idea of turnkey are not quite the same though. To me its ready to fit. Still will want to check tappets and change oil etc
