Thanks to a lucky punt on ebay the gearbox from my 1978 California bus is now available. Gears select perfectly but the crown wheel and pinion gear are worn and need replacing. It's not just the bearings so allow for this, apparently the gears are £120 / £180 new, but I'm sure somebody on here either has them or can tell us different! Alternatively should you be looking to buy a reconditioned exchange box from somewhere,and you dont have one to exchange.... heres one! They usually charge £500 surcharge, and I want £250, so you could save £250, still with me, by using this as your exchange. It needs a bit of a clean , but no corrosion on the aluminium, unlike the one I found to replace it, and as I said all the gears select perfectly as long as your shifter has been set up OK.
