3 switches on dash

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Aitken1, Sep 18, 2017.

  1. hi all

I have 3 switches next to the radio, all three are colour coded to the colour of the bus but have no idea what they are for. Should be connected up but they arent and are therefore just cosmetic.

This is bound to be obvious so apols in advance!! but answers welcome

Any pics ? Or can you tell us what colour your bus is so we can work out what colour the switches are ?

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, Is your bus red blue and black maybe ?;)

They change the cool backdrop on your windscreen...

    There are 8 different patterns...

All in is a rainy day in Manchester.
All out us Paradise Cove, Malibu at sunset.

    And so on..

  10. ^this, most likely. Barnsley in the Spring is my favourite.

Are they actually connected to anything?

Now listen and listen good, I got an Early and I ain`t got that amount of switches in the whole bus so I`m not likely to know. To me they look like accessory switches like spotlights and stuff. I`d pull a wire off and see what don`t work. Have you told the Mrs that all three together is for the ejecter seat ? On my bus there`s nuffink down there. Does anything come on or off when you activate them, have you maybe tried twiddling one or two perhaps

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,not really helping am I :)

  12. PS If they're genuine rubbery VW fog light switches, get them on eBay. You'll be minted

  13. just a typical day in scotland by the beach..no trickery needed!

  14. They have a connection at the back..they do look like the connection into the front headlights...so possibly for fog lights but I don't have any wires and aren't hooked up at all though..nor are the two black switch things..so annoying..

  15. Where do the existing wires go?

Previous owners are well known for fitting odd and bodgy wiring. Could be anything.

It could be someone before drilled a load of horrible looking holes in the dash and then a later owner filled them with switches so they did not have to look into the gnarly burred holes....as they had a box full of switches on the shelf.

  17. There are no wires at all..and doesn't have any additional spotlights..I guess the black switches below the radio could have been for front and back stereo sound..if that even existed then!!

  18. It's not to cover a bodge as thought of that and is clean at the back ie neat hole..

  19. Stereo's been around since the 1950s - our vans aren't that antiquated ;)

Post a pic of one of the green switches ( better still, take one out). Original fog switches are much sought after - and you've got three of them!

  20. have they got any symbols printed on the switch inserts?

if not they are aftermarket accessory switches

original green switches were for heated rear screen ....I think original fog light inserts were amber colour
