So I have started my first Resto project, forgive me if these pics are no good, it's my first time! ??? Here she is on the drive of the guy we brought her from last year:
I ripped out the interior once we had spent a few weekends away in her, I say interior, I mean the wooden box section that had been put in the back! Front panel a bit rusty, nothing new there! Engine bay is a mess, although she sounds sweet when she's running. Having a problem starting everytime, either the starter relay or the starter motor is on it's way out. There was all sorts of things on her that I didn't understand for a while ...
After a few weeks I broke down returning from a camping trip on The Lizard ( I managed to rig up some wood in the back and slung a double mattress in the back, comfy as! lol Suspected it was one of these two culprits... That must be a technical cable tie^ lol I was lucky, it was the cheaper of the two! All systems running again fine after this was purged through and replaced...
Plans? They keep changing! Interior wise we want to keep it minimal, rock 'n roll beds about it. we like to get a BBQ and/or a fire on the go so no need for a cooker etc. I over the space in the van without all the odds and sods personally. Annie wants a TV...I'm not happy about that but technically the van is hers so I guess I will be installing one a lot later on. she wants it in a panel behind the seats so a bulkhead of some description is in order I guess! The r and r will eventually gain seatbelts I hope to allow me to take more than one passenger. the solid sliding sunroof is rotten and needs to go, I was trying to decide between a poptop and a tintop or maybe even installing some kind of perspex sunroofy type thing but money wins as always and for now at least she will be a tintop until such point that a poptop makes itself available...to do this obviously I need to do some cutting...I'm a qualified welded but newly so and I'm not 100% about welding it up myself as the metal is so thin but we shall see when the time comes! lleast she will be a tin top
The roof... Was the worst panel on the bus, it was leaking like a sieve all all around the sunroof. So I sealed it and taped it up for the Winter. We got 4 camping trips in at the end of last year and stayed dry throughout!
Thanks mate, it's all coming along, I hate this bit where you feel like you are going backwards more than forwards! So, I let rip with an angle grinder...
yep i blocked the hole in the exhaust with a bolt and welded it, ragged all the pipes out and made a plate to cover the end on the engine, also ragged off the charcoal filter for the californian smog bullshayyyy and just piped into the airfilter direct. less pipes is good.
