  1. Hello just sitting thinking stick with me
I'm thinkin that the 2 litre pancake motor might need a upgrade . I was thinking of a Subaru engine if I go this way can I use the whole wiring loom from the impreza . I was thinking of using the binicle and the wiring for the lights and other or is this to Much work . If so what can I do to my pancake motor to get more power
    Thanks Simon

2l should keep up with the traffic.
If you want more and keep to the air-cooled ethos, make it bigger.
If you don't care if it's air-cooled, saburu engines have more welly, but at a price.

  3. Why change? It'll cause you unending grief and expense. Best to get your 2l sorted - it's a nice engine.

You will need the van loom for lights, horn etc as the car one will not be the right lengths.
The loom for the engine can be a big issue as the car has lots of other bits and sensors than you will need and to be honest it would be better and save a lot of hassle both to start with and in the future if you had a proper loom made to suit.

Fitting a Subaru engine is the easy bit getting it to run right is a nightmare and best left to the experts.

There are a few people who have done the work on hear and they will be better suited to tell you but its not cheep and its not easy.

    Why not get a T5

  5. And you'll have the same engine as all those chavvy boys. Do you really want that :(?

I thought about bunging a Subaru engine in until someone told me it'd cost me £6k and still be a nightmare to get running right!

  7. As already said, the loom from the scooby would be wrong for the van electrics... lengths, and how it was originally routed!!

If you're serious about going down the scooby route, then have a chat to the guys at TSR, the do a conversion kit....

  8. Well.at the cost of 6k I think I will stick to my pancake. Next ? What can I do to get a little more power I don't mind getting my hands dirty

  9. up the compression ratio a little, head work (bigger valves), better cam, pair of 44 carbs, and a decent exhaust/muffler

That'll put you at an easy 120bhp.... but cost wise will come in at £5-6k... less if you can do some of the work yourself
