accelerator cable ?

  1. Thought i would change the accelerator cable as the one ive got on has seen better days as is starting to fray plus it doesnt have the moulded end for the barrel clamp its just bare stranded wire . I bought one ages ago for what i thought would be the correct year for mine as it had the same end as was already on ( sort of hook type ) and thought it was about time i fitted it but its just that little bit too short . dosnt help with mine being a cross over (72) now the one thats longer which also covers my year has a different end sort of a straight bar with a kink in it . just wondering if thats the right connection ????

my linkage theres the pedal assembly which links via a rod to a swivel bit that then goes through the chassis via a rod and the the end that connects to the cable is a sort of flat vertical plate with a hole at the top of it .
how does that cable with the kink in it stop in the hole ? does it just rely on the kink in the metal to stop there ? as the old one was obviously a hook and once in wouldn't be able to come back out ?

also the new cables have a short plastic sleeve with numbers printed on them ? do you remove this sleeve or leave it on ? as its very tight to get through the Concettina dust cover ?

sorry for the "non" technical wording :)

    Thanks

  2. Once the cable's tensioned at the carb end, the kink holds it in nicely - honest!

Either take the sleeve off or leave it. I've never had any probs with it.

  3. thanks . :)
