Advice for setting a selling price

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by earlylatebay, Aug 14, 2013.

  1. Hi all. hope this is the right forum for this.

This is not a for sale thread but I am after some advice. How do you all go about setting a selling price for a bay. We don't seem to use our bay much now and it is a shame not to use it.

so.. we are deciding to sell it. Problem is how much to set as a price. We don't want to give it away but also need to be realistic. What is the best way to get a valuation for it? I know this all sounds a bit vague. I am not asking people to tell me how much it is worth just how to go about setting a fair price.

Just compare it to other ads in the normal places.
If you get it valued, the valuer will assume you'll be happiest at the highest possible level, which in the real world will probably be unrealistic, and hence won't sell.
If you do decide to sell, do it now as values will drop as we head out of summer.

  3. Perhaps mate something along the lines of when I sold my flat, I invited all the local estate agents to value it , and took a sensible average from the(some plain stupidly high) price(s) they came up with.Good luck.

What did you buy it for?
    What have you done/spent since?
as @Baysearcher says look at what other vans are going for, but pay attention to:
    what conversion is yours?
how much of it is original (more important I think is what condition is the interior on)
what future work do you know it needs and estimate how much that might cost.

The market lives and breathes - time of year, your location all have an effect.

The isn't anything wrong with advertising it and adjusting your price.

  5. The interior is new. basically we bought it as a shell 5 years ago. it has been rebuilt. So many new panels I cant remember.
list is roughly. NEW: front panel, inner valance, front deformation panel, all sills, new front arches, doors, side door repaired, floor, engine (new 1641), whole brake system, RNR bed, interior trim panels, seat covers, almost rewired, twin weber ICT's. vintage speed exhaust. propex, Resprayed in Dove blue and pastel white complete set of new door/ window seals, plus all the little things like gauges.

As for conversion, originally it was a Devon but it had no interior when we bought the van so we had to source our own interior.

will pop some pics up and see. maybe I should just advertise it and see... its in the avatar..Thanks all

  6. as others have said, have a look at the the usual sites to spot similar buses to get a 'feel'. Look at the Ebay completed listings to see what sells and what does not.
Then think of a number, add 50% and take a punt :D Someone out there may want to just spend some money.
Sorry first sentence is the serious one.

If you were to buy your van what would you be willing to pay?

  8. thanks all. I am keeping an eye on others and will go from there.

  9. dunno if that will work....

completed listings on e bay [what have vans sold for rather than been auctioned for],that will give you a better idea....

  10. It is always subjective but given the list of things you've done you need to recover some of that. When I was buying, earlier this year, I saw vans going for wildly different prices. I figured that a shed would cost me up to £2k, a van needing lots of work up to £3 - 6k a reasonable van needing small amounts of work £6 - 10k and over £10k I'd be expecting not to have to do too much / anything except maintain the status quo. Some wanted up to and over £20k and so I would hope that vans at that price would be perfect. There is no definitive pricing structure and everything depends on the solidness of the van, the state of the interior and exterior and the reliability of the engine.

I sold my own van several years ago on Ebay and due to its state / work needed (I honestly listed the known faults) started the bidding at a lowly £500. It sold for £1500 which I was happy with albeit slightly disappointed it had gone for a bargain price. As others said, check out what they sell for. You're more likely to sell in Spring / Summer when people want to go camping, and therefore command the better prices.

I'd be happy to offer my judgement on what to ask - but I am no authority on this and really it's up to you and what you think, honestly, someone should pay for it.

    Good luck. :)
