Hi. I recently got my Van on the road. Before we left I turned on our 12v fridge but it didn't work It's powered off the leisure battery (95AH) which in turn is charged through a Durite split charge relay. Anyways,,, today I'm charging my Leisure battery from the mains & for the sake of it, plug in the fridge,,, & it's working. I'm thinking about upgrading the alternator to improve charging of the batteries. Any advice/ideas/experience folk??? Cheers.
I'm currently fitting an alternator to mine .....taken about 3 weeks so far ...so from experience, if your going to do it....buy a kit that has everything in it, and dont buy Chinese rubbish no matter how shiney or expensive it may be....its still rubbish have a look here:- http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/more-alternator-troubles.25019/
Get the full kit http://www.machine7.com/section.php?xSec=186 or http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/Sho..._51_Amp_Alternator_Conversion_Bundle_Kit.html And it will be a worth while job the dynamo will only just cope with the van lights and wipers with a alternator it will charge the batterys quicker and in a more controlled way. And dont get carried away with shiny bling bling chrome alternators
I got a 70A one from jk been in for a year or 2 no problems. No idea if its chinese, its not shiny either looks pretty much like an original
