Another calliper thread - FAO Zed...

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by snotty, Jun 11, 2013.

  1. After a grand clear out of the garage, found my old (late late) brake callipers. These are destined for the dump unless I can find a seal kit for them...well, not seals but the dust boots. Most kits I've seen have the wrong type boots.

Anyone know of a source of these? Ta.

  2. what sort have yours got?

  3. The late (post 76) ones.

I believe seals are now available.

  5. They're ATEs. Used to be that noone had the right boots, but maybe that's not the case.

They've avoided a trip to the dump...;)

  6. On the van i hope :)

  7. Steady hand, and slowly open it out with the electric drill... It's how I normally do them!! :)

Then you just need a M7x1 tap to clean the threads out :)

  8. I'll give it a go!

  9. Snapped, not chapped ;-)

I've got them out very easily by building up weld even if it's down the hole a bit.
Clean snapped end with a drill, but don't clean anything else.
Build up blobs of high power MIG. It seems to go for the nipple and not stick to the cast caliper.
Mostly they unscrew with your fingers (when cooled) leaving the thread un-messed with, no swarf and no chance of going too far with the drill and hitting the sealing surface. Suits me sir. :D

  11. Ooh.
