Anyone ever heard of Radical Campers based in Oldham??

  1. We're after a little bit of work done on the bus and I've just found this website - www.radicalcampers.co.uk - has anyone ever heard of them and know what their work is like? To avoid anything controversial feel free to pm me rather than reply on here

All we're after is a little adjustment to the timing on the carbs and the brakes looking at but the place we were going to use are shut for a week and as Radical Campers are only 10 miles from our house it sounds very convenient but I'd rather get your opinions first

    Thanks all

Not heard of them but saw their van leaving Tatton yesterday. They'd forgotten to put the bumpers on......

  3. Never heard of them sorry :(

Timing is really really easy to do yourself. Brakes aren't difficult either.
Come to Techenders and you can learn that in a few hours easily.

  6. we are going to try and come to techenders this year but I need the brakes looked at before then. I'm pretty sure they shouldn't clunk when I break nor should the pedal vibrate up and down lol

was going to give them one another try but they're away for a week - typical

We're off to the lakes in a couple of weekends then down Cheltenham for August bank holiday so I really want the brakes sorting

Have you got a trolly jack? Every bus owner should have a 3 ton one, not the cheap 2 ton version. The 3 ton is super safe, your bus won't fall off it and it'll have a large pad to lift the van. The 2 ton ones are much cheaper, but as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Then crack the wheel nuts, handbrake off and jack up the clunking corner where the jacking point/outrigger meets the chassis. Off with the drum and post a pic. We'll tell you what to do. Does your handbrake come out a long way? It sounds like you need a new drum (up and down pedal) and adjustment (clunking) or a return spring has broken (clunking). All straightforward stuff if the van's safe on a whopping great jack.

  8. Thanks Zed, She had new rear drums 6 months ago and the pedal hasn't been right since, the handbrake now works though and it doesn't come out half as much as it used to! As far as the clunk is concerned, I notice that as I enter the garage slowly and break, if I stick her in reverse and break there's no noise and it definitely coming from the front. I'd love to fix it myself but as the brakes are rather important I think I'd like a professional to sort it lol

If the pedal vibrated you should have taken it back and told them. They did something wrong or missed something and you already paid for the job.

  10. I did think that but originally just thought it needed "bedding in"

One day I'll learn, I just want a nice reliable mechanic - any chance of moving up north ;)
