  1. Possibly looking to build a TYPE 4 vintage speed copy type exhaust in stainless as the bought ones are out of my price range . I did ages ago build a stainless steel one for my beetle but that got sold . Has anyone built there own ? I know its not simple with regards to back pressures and baffles .... any info ?

  2. @Paul Weeding has made his own if memory serves me correct

  3. @Paul Weeding has built some, if I recall.

I know a man who does!

    http://racefituk.com/

they do some beautiful stuff and in the back of their workshop have a very early Porsche Motor they are doing some development work on

  5. MorkC68 ..... what grade of stainless to those guys make the bike exhausts from ? love the heat blueing ...

I know Paul has made his own but i`ve `fingered `the poor guy for so much info already .....:)

Its not the making its the back pressure and baffles that i know nothing of , unless anyone want to cut their VS exhaust in half

I think some are made from 316L & they also make ones from Ti6Al-4v as we use the same supplier.

Its *******ing it down with rain here, I'll nip across on Monday & ask them!

  7. must be titanium ..... never welded it and over kill on my bus altho i have some titanium rod i was going to make my carb linkage out of

  8. I've made a few 4-2-1 systems, so the silencing is left to a regular off the shelf muffler... I normally use a magnaflow silencer

The VS stuff is pretty basic inside, a couple of baffle plates, and then a silencer insert in the actual tailpipe!!

You can see where the baffle plates are spot welded into the exhaust.

One -ve for the VS exhausts is the mating flanges, the VS ones are too soft/small and easy to bend. I've heard they have a habit of loosening their nuts after a few days of fitting and I wouldn't be surprised if this is because of the give in the flange plates.

  10. I need to get an exhaust made, ive got the silencers, just need a short run of pipework ;)

  11. Sketch anyone

  12. I'm going to get in touch with these guys in Macclesfield for a different application...might be worth an ask if you're local

Of what? I can give it a good measure up next week and what's more I can be trusted to measure things properly. :D

  14. silencer or exhaust ? i made a silencer many many moons back , it was a bit noisy but that was good them days , length and baffle are the critical bit ,ie for power and noise.

  15. Sizes I can take off the standard exhaust but a sketch of the internals or how the baffles go .

They are excellent, my father in law uses them for his vintage cars and Subaru, he's an ex engineer and perfectionist so it's all the recommendation I'd need.
