  1. There were some reccomendations on a thread somewhere which I now can't find. Sick of de-bugging my ageing Dell (again yesterday) am am looking to get a Mac for browsing and some image manipulation. Don't mind re-con one as I know even a new Macbook is over a grand.
Can anyone reccomend what model/size i'd need please. Don't want a another desktop so a lappy would be good.:hattip:

I'd go for a 3/4 year old MacBook Pro - upgrade memory to 8gb (£30) upgrade hard drive to SSD and you then have a pretty quick machine.

I would guess around total cost £600?

  5. I have this model and they are great. Switched to Macbooks in 2008 and would never go back to Windows.

  6. That looks pretty good - I've got much the same. You can always update the OS for not very much. Might be worth considering a larger screen (13" are fine but quite petite), but that does get pricey.

I haven't used a Windows machine since buying mine. You may need to buy a few utilities (like Path Finder), but not that expensive.

  8. Yep... Second hand MacBook Pro is the way to go, I recently bought one for the wife to do her course on... She loves it, quick and reliable..

  9. What is Path Finder?

  10. Just an alternative to the standard "Finder", which I don't think is that great. Apple are notorious for not improving stuff that they're not really interested in.

The other thing I miss is a version of Visio for the Mac.

If you want to also install windows, use boot camp, then you can have both operating systems.

I use my mac for both win7 and mac operating system.

  12. Forgot about that! Win 7 is actually not that bad.

  13. I find finder isn't too bad. But then again Im quite anal when it comes to organising my files and so know where everything is!

Used for work purposes only otherwise wouldn't have bothered.

  15. Thanks folks. Good advice as usual.

  16. I find viewing and organising my photos on the mac more difficult than I used to on windows

Try getting aperture, sorts them all for me by month & imports all of iCloud photo's automatically.

  18. Or Picassa's not bad, if you don't mind Google snooping on everything you have (which is their mission in life...)

  19. I've found that iPhoto is adequate for organising photos, and it was free with my mac.

  20. Me too :)
