Avoid a fire, everyone should read this

  1. I have a single Weber carb and from what I can see you just use a bit less fuel line

  2. Oh , and remember to put the line from the T piece above the engine hatch into top of the air filter.

  3. Hi,
Does anyone have a guide on which ones and thee whereabouts and how to replace on a T4 engine with fuel injection , its a 1977 model. Ive just had a look at the one behind the ns rear lamp and its all perished so it needs checking and doing pretty urgent. Also where do you recommened to buy from ?
    Regards Mike

  4. Turns out a crew cab is much simpler. Same vents on top of fuel tank join up to t piece above the tank then the vent goes next to the louvred on the rh side. Awkward to get to the rubber connectors but I do all in about 30 mins

  5. They're all there on the diagram on page one of this thread.

  6. Had my bay for over a year. Always had Strong smell of fuel when filling up & going round large roundabouts .

Changed my fuel filler pipe and breathers tonight. Check this out!

  7. Oops!
Good job I just bought all of the bits for Cyril if that's how they get...
Is your engine in or out and how long did it take to do?

  8. I'm not sure I have the time (or inclination) to read through 14 pages to find the answer to my question.

    So.....

What do I need to buy to replace these hoses?

  9. Pretty much length, dimensions and clips depends on the engine and more importantly if carb or FI. Also don't forget the filler pipes on the fuel tank. VWH has these if not JK. Also watch out for the clips from JK, they seem to just supply Jubilee clips and not the ABA Stainless Steel ones that apparently don't pinch the fuel lines.

  10. my mate has now changed all the fuel breather tubes in the engine bay and behind the fire wall as well as the fuel tank filler neck which had a split at the bottom where the petrol pump nozzle goes in. (that was a carfuffle to say the least). so fingers crossed there should be no more smell of petrol.

  11. Changed breathers behind fire wall and fuel filler pipe.
3 1/2 hours I was at it . Took my time tho as I didn't want to mess it up.

    Type 4 engine
    Twin dells

Took filters off carbs & had to take the fan blower off. Bar steward of a job but needed done.

  12. Good one, thanks

  14. That's quite impressive!

So that doesn't even need a fire extinguisher as such, just the tube?

However, is it just me, or did it seem to burn for just a little too long?

  15. My beathers are open ended on the roof of the engine bay just inside the hatch. The van has had three services with experts since I've owned it (one of whom I bought it from) and its never been mentioned. The spigot on the back of the progressive carb has the pipe from the oil breather connected to it should I put a T into that and connect everything up?

    Your thoughts please.

  16. As I recall there is a T piece on mine with the breather pipe going into the top of the air filter (I had to drill a hole & fit something to connect the pipe to) on the top of my progressive. I've have noticed less fumes since I did it.

  17. I checked mine last night.

The ones that I could see (running along the top of the engine bay) have the old fabric outer style hoses on.

Are these the ones that need replacing for decent rubber ones?

  18. Among others, yep!

I wouldn't worry so much about those ones personally as they carry vapour, not liquid petrol. No harm in changing them but don't lose sleep over it.
I'd avoid using the overbraided stuff for actual fuel line though.
