Bad exhaust fumes, due to missing pop-top?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by JacktheT2, Oct 1, 2013.

  1. Anyone ever driven their van without the bellows in, and experienced bad exhaust fumes inside ?

Our bellows have been removed as they are being used as a template; the van was then driven on a long journey and filled with exhaust fumes. Could the fumes ingress be due to the bellows being missing ??

  3. I don't see how....the exhaust doesn't rely on the van interior being pressurised....if the engine lid's open you can get a strange vortex effect that seems to pull fumes into the bus, and the air cooling system relies on a certain amount of +ve air pressure to work effectively, hence the value in having all the seals in place, so i can see where you're going with the bellows thing...but I'd've thought missing bellows would act in a similar way to having the windows open...You'll know the answer when you refit the bellows...meantine wear a gas mask

  4. Drive any estate car or hatch back with the rear door open, and it drags the exhaust straight inside.
This is why the T2 exhaust exits at the side I think.
