    Early badges are metal

  2. So are some late ones but after market 10 inch ones are widely available too!

  3. ^ this is true. Most odd.

  5. Could be wrong then. Mine had. An aluminium one on it but it could have been added later!

  6. The van had had the front panel changed at some point so it has the raised plinth. I want a large badge so gonna have to modify the badge which is metal

  7. Pink grip sticks like marmite but eventually becomes very brittle and unreliable

Early badges look best because they are the best,, simples;)
The threaded bolts on the back of the badge are actually just ring shanks and not threads, because when these are fitted it's quite hard to get to the inside with a nut but they have a washer with a tang in it so you squeeze that on and the ring shanks stop it from coming off. That might not be the actual reason but that's how it is in practice :).
If you are going to grind the back off the badge to give yourself a little relief, then I would recommend masking the whole thing up first with frog tape. Firstly the grinder sparks may damage the surface of the badge and the last thing you want is to have rust streaks coming down from the front or even behind the badge
Secondly it will be a lot easier to see clear pencil marks on tape as opposed to chrome. Just for the sake of being awkward I might try and fit the badge backwards first then photograph and measure it just so that I can see what the shape would end up being etc etc, and I'd d that with building the back of the badge up with some play doh . If too much needs removing then it will look s.h.i.te or marmite even.
Possibly it may look better with a large backing washer to fill out around the mound, so make a washer from foamex or something the same size as your badge and make the hole the same size as your plinth / mount on the panel and it could be colour coded to your bus or vinyl wrapped in a contrast or wrapped to look chrome even.

Ozziedog, ,,,,,, chrome badge on chrome,,, hhhmmmm:)

  10. A ten inch badge on a seven inch bump is going to look mighty odd...

  11. my thoughts too. A 7 inch one will fit perfectly with little or no work and a chrome one would probably look best!

  12. Job done ..... took bloody ages to trim the back of the metal badge so it fits perfectly over the plinth. Used Sika Flex to hold it on :)

Looks like it's tilting to the left a bit :D

  14. Just deflate the nearside tyre a bit , it will look fine

  15. Should've put a picture rail on the front and hung it off that.

  16. Does, actually

Yes it does look a bit left wing but that is just an impression from the shot I`m sure. Looks great bud as I can see you went to a lot of effort to do this.

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, big uns looks best.!!:)

  18. I was waiting for the wonky comments!!

It was lots of work but I have a clear image of what I want the van to look like and I had to have a large badge. Other option was cut out the plinth and weld over it but that seemed like a bit too much work!

  19. Morning Matt
A couple of years ago I was polishing my van in preparation for Volksworld, when the bloody badge popped off. I was running out of time as I needed to meet the other TLB members, I found some sticks like marmite, applied it to the badge and it's still there
Ifs it's any consolation mines slightly wonky by a thou

I would go out and give it a sharp tap from time to time as sticks like marmite also turns to sticks to nothing as it ages and gets very brittle.
