Beam Differences on my split screen

  1. Thought i would ask here, as there are some cleaver and knowledgeable and i might get a better response from you friendly, cleaver, nice people
Im in the process off fitting my dropped spindles which I've had sat in the garage for the last two years

My pick up is an early 62 one got the spindles from Transporterheaus along with all the bits and a beam as mine has had some weird adjusters fitted that won't put me back to stock height. It looks different to my beam, the torsion arms slide and fit tight, spindles are the same non tapered but beam is different.

The grease nipple holes are smaller on my old one
The bottom seems to be cut off, i have two beams the same so assume a factory beam.

Steering pin housing different, my old one has a strg damper fitted but the other does not.
    But it fits the van.

Just want to make sure it's ok before I strip and paint the other one.
Heres the weird adjusters, would it be easier to cut the old ones off?

  2. sorry M8...when it comes to Splits, I'm neither knowledgeable or clever....however, if everything fits and lines up according to where it should, i see no reason why you can't make it work....may have some issues with interchanging parts though....the simple answer is, i just don't know. Maybe try a Splitscreen forum. good luck with it

  3. Thanks I have but they are a bit like TLB, getting blood from a stone and have the attitude that you should know anyway. ;)
All seems to fit and it's the one Transporterheaus supplies me so fingers crossed all should be ok.

  4. the beam with the boxed steering centre pin (your og beam) looks like every other stock split beam ive seen. i believe the adjusters on it are harry harpics? although i might be wrong? i think you pull the square bit out the middle move the centre grub screw down and flip the square over this moves the torsion bars round in the axle tube to alter the ride hight  think the other beam is a modified stock beam with bottoms cut of to prevent scrapping and the centre pin mount looks like one from a aftermarket beam? my cb performance one on the split looks similar

  5. How right was you, just found a receipt from 1999 from Harry Harpics for fitting the said beam adjusters. They look a right bodge job.

My new beam is original as I now have two that looks the same bottom bits cut off and going by the date stamp on them ones off a 58 van and the other is off a 59 one.

  6. not a fan of any adjusters other than the teeth type but like you say the harpic ones look abit naff.
thought it was modded as im not used to earlier beams having a late split, to be fair the earlier type axle looks of a better design as its usually bottom of beam and centre pin box that rots out
