Been offered some DRLA 36s...

  1. Hi guys,
I have been offered some DRLA 36's which have been all "renewed" running choke 30, air jets 180, fuel jets 122, emuslion tubes 9164.3.

Apparently they are a matching pair "S and D" (i dont know what this means!)

    couple of quick questions

    1) I have a 1.6 and its running one standard sloex carb at present, what additional parts would I require to fit and get the dellortos running well, and how much ££ would these extras cost.

    2) The guy thats selling them would be able to change the setup of the carbs before sending them to me, what (if anything) would you change about the setup I have stated.

    3) what would be a good price for them.

    Any help much appreciated :)

  2. you would need to change chokes ,E tubes and main jets , get manifolds a linkage/filter kit , sort brake servo if you have one ,antipulse valve ,

  3. thanks for the help, what settings would you need the chokes, e tubes and jets changing too? as i should be able to get him to change them prior to sending,
    thnaks again

  4. anyone know? i'm being asked to decide whether i want them or not!

  6. From various sources (you'll need to experiment a bit):
    - 28mm venturis (30s are a bit big). I bet your mate won't change them, as they're pricey and you need 4 ;)
    - 55 - 57 idles
    - 9164.2 emulsion (although what you have is prob ok)
    - mains 118 - 120
    - air correction 180
    - accelerator pump 33 or 35

You'll need 4 of everything, plus nice manifolds, air filters and something like a CSP bell-crank linkage.

  7. PS They are "handed", so there's a left one and a right one. And one with a little light on...

I can't help with jet sizes etc, but i got a pair of these from euro carb and i think there brilliant. More power, smoother, and better MPG. Very simple to set up at home also. Cost me about £700 all in ( ouch ) but a nice bit of kit.

  9. s is sinistra or left d is destra right

  10. Blimey, you learn something every day :)

  11. See, I'd leave the 30 chokes as they are... you'll gain a little more top end

What were they on? engine size wise!!

  14. ok last question i promise! looks like i'll be getting them, but the only thing he can change are the banjos.
he said i can have either two single banjos or one single and one dual.

they have been reconditioned and he is asking £245 delivered. does that sound a decent price baring in mind i'll have to change several parts?

thanks so much for all your help!

  15. You'll need one double banjo and one single. Fuel goes from pump to one connection on double, then from other diyble connection to the single on the other carb.

Price doesn't sound bad if they're in good shape.

Is this 'best practice' Snotty, only ask because my fuel pipe still has a T connection and 2 single banjos. Is there a benefit in doing as above other than reducing the number of connections in fuel pipes?

  17. I don't think it really matters - personal choice! I'd always assumed that as used dells seem to come with at least one double banjo, this is the way folk like Alfa did it.

T-piece would also work fine, but more connections as you say.

Thanks, was thinking there was a technical reason and I'd have more work to do putting it right :)

  19. i hope it is one single and one duel as thats what ive asked him to put on them now! haha

  20. Should be fine!

    Dells are lovely :)!
