To me it looks fine it looks like new hose and it has proper clips I have my filter in the engine bay just like vw did Mine is secure and not near anything hot its well protected from stones being flicked up from the road and i can see it
MoT tester might not see it that way....but I take your point Matty. I've put fags out in petrol before now...then again, i do have a Death wish
you've all got me worried about driving it now, it's been off road for 6 years, last mot 2007, I know your all giving me sensible professional advice put im unsure which way to turn now, so for Mondays mot what is the best I can do tomorrow to make it safe to drive approx. 4 miles? thank you
The fuel lines don't appear that old. However, if its been off the road for 6 years I'd change them before driving it personally.
Wizard...there's loads of people on here, willing to share their personal knowledge and experience...but every now and then, someone comes along and takes the p*ss, for whatever reason...there's good banter, and there's the stuff that gets on people's t*ts...Now, I'm not saying you're in the latter, but sometimes, it's hard to distinguish between the two...people go off what's written on the page...if someone posts on a forum such as this, you automatically assume that they have a basic mechanical knowledge...hence why some might think it's a wind -up. Check the thread about what new owners should know in the general discussion forum
Strangely enough....Yes....especially if you lack the rudimentary mechanical acumen to own an old vehicle. When I was a small boy, my Grandfather used to teach me how to calculate cam duration and overlap by singing this song: Sung to the tune of "Deutschland Uber Alles" When the intake valve is o-open exhaust valve must n-er be thus and so on...
is it safe enough to drive to the mot, max 5 miles, plus around the block a few times first testing brakes etc, the vehicle is sorn
If it isn't leaking it will be fine for now - people used to put them in there all the time until it dawned on some that they can leak and cause engine fires. This is the thread vanorak was talking about - read the first 4 pages - it meanders off a bit after that! http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/things-new-bay-owners-should-know-thread.19058/
Give the fuel lines a squeeze to make sure they haven't perished and gone brittle. If they've been dry for that length of time they could well be buggered.
Looking at your other photos, the filter is only clamped on 1 side, 1 side is just pushed on. The fuel line is R6, you want R9.
