case stud

  1. after refitting my oil pump today, I tightened up the case fixings above and below that I had slackened off to aid getting the pump out.

the bottom fixing is a bolt straight through both halfs of the case - is this right or should it have been a stud at one point in its life?

the top bolt (just below pulley) , when I started tightening I found I couldnt get it to torque up to 14lbft :( the stud was not spinning, so I'm guessing it is starting to pull the insert out? .....so what should I do?

....of course I decided to put the pulley tin ware and pulley back on  ......but now its stating to play on my mind :( ....what are my options (dont want to strip the engine and split the case to put a new insert in......and thinking there might not be enough 'meat' to get a new insert in?)

    any advice appreciated :)

  2. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

    It'll be alright. :)
If it's not I don't think it would leak much.
Can you drill through and nut/bolt it?

  3. cheers mate, thats a relief

I cant move it with my fingers so its reasonably tight.....just not up to the right torque :(

........but I'm happy to leave it well alone and live with a little oil leak ......after all the cleaning and gasket changes I've done :D
