Clutch, it's making my head hurt

  1. If I depress the clutch pedal, which feels quite loose, and the vans in gear and the engines running and the van creeps forward then i need to tighten the nut on the cable, right?

Yet if I do that the clutch begins to slip? Can't be the clutch knackered as its brand new and it all worked fine when it was in the pretender. The only different component is the clutch cable itself?

    Confused and my head hurts
    ?

  2. Clutch is dragging. No expert but had this once. Mine stopped doing it after being driven for a while. I just used to kepp my foot on the brake. Bit like an auto. Sure theres a better explanation and that it may be a serious issue but mine wasnt! Have you done any miles with it and are gears ok?

Did you change the engine and gearbox together, or just swap the engine and clutch/pressure plate?

Is the Bowden tube still attached to the axle?

  4. Is the clutch return spring on the arm knackered?

    Joker likes this.
  5. Was the pressure plate torqued properly? If so, it's probably what @Dicky mentioned....new cable will also stretch after a day or two so will need redoing shortly...I hate cable clutches...every car I've had with cable clutch has been an ar*e

  6. Took the engine and gearbox out of one van and put it in another. Worked fine before. The only component I didn't carry over was the clutch cable. I think I'll try a new one
    :)

  7.

  8. what about the thrush bearing did you swap that over...?

when you tightened the pressure plate did the springs compress much?

  9. Took the complete engine and box from one van and put it in another van. When it was intone first van it already had a complete new clutch kit and all worked fine
    :)

  10. check the travel on the wire ,the tube that wraps round it, may come away [back axle maybe] so when you press the clutch the wire does not do much...

  11. Have you got the required droop in the conduit? May need packing out with washers, see Bentley.
