I can honestly say that I have spent more than that on my welding even though i did the donkey work myself and only paid for the panels and welding!

  7. Sorry my bad its the Clarke one

  8. I've got the 130te version, gave a mate 75 notes for it with 2 reels of wire, i changed the regulator so that i could use argonshield light gas and it's been bob on for all that i've done on the bus, panel and chassis work no problemo

that welder only goes down to 60 amps, you will struggle to weld bodywork with it

  11. When it comes to welders theres a few basic rules

Buy a decent brand with good spares availability
Buy one that will go above what you currently want to do
    Use decent gas
    Use a decent visor

    Practice practice practice practice

Oh and never use gasless unless your tacking farm gates back together

  12. Interesting... I'd not looked that closely at it!!

  13. My last welder, which I still have, was a sealey super mig 150... Now I would recommend one of those, but they aren't as good as they used to be... the new ones are the hi/low min/max power range type, whereas my old one is a 1 to 7 power range...

My current setup is a Migatronic Automig... it's an older single phase unit, but it's a really good welder... I can weld thin panels on power setting 4 (1 to 10 power range) and do a half second tack that fully penetrates the metal, and doesn't throw loads of heat in due to the short burst!!

Well mate if it allowed me to weld half as good as you Iwould seriously consider buying an expensive one:thumbsup:

  16. You'd probably have to add a bottle regulator to that too!! :)

But you can get twin gauge ones pretty cheaply now!! :)

  17. Malc dude

Honestly spend the money upfront for a decent one
Second hand is smashing if it saves you a few bob

Its one of the few things that its worth spending more money upfront
When you have used a cheap welder and spent 40 mins cutting out birds nests rather than welding in every hour you will wish you had spent a bit more

    I have a twin guage I don't need.
