As it says really. I'm just about to reconnect the thermostats cable, what position do the flaps need to be in and how much tension needs to be on the wire after its connected, obviously this is all on a stone cold engine.

  2. You need to fit the upper tins then depress the lever forwards (down, push towards flywheel) then attach the cable, pull it tight and tighten the nut. When the thermostat opens this opens up the flaps

Right, so the flap in the pic would be down (shut) when the cable is attached, and as the engine heats up the thermostat expands which allows the flap to open?

Correct, I hope you're going to paint them first. :)

It means if the cable snaps then safe position it open flaps :)

Yup, got that, Para delivered it last week. I just hope I took enough photos before I stripped it down so I don't wind up with too many spare bits when I've finished.

Think he means you might have trouble fitting it with the fan housing on...

Top tip - leave all the tin screws loose until they're all in place.

it's tight but doable with a torch and an extra pair of hands right @oscar ?

Oh right, well as you know I'm no expert but I had taken it off before the engine went away and it went with the fan housing on - soooo hopefully I'll be able to refit it now. Fingers crossed eh!

Good tip, will do. I ditched all the tin screws and got stainless hex head bolts instead.

Not only has it got brush strokes (and hairs) in it but the other side is still rusty and covered in grease. Still, no one can see that side can they so it's all good.

Remember Para, no job is too big to bodge!
