Check out the BBC live feed from the wreck site................better than watching paint dry if you have nothing better to do! Tony
I know its just it looks complete ,seems such as waste but I guess after a few years under water its a write off
Underwriters will have declared it a total loss...a lengthy immersion in salt water will have pickled anything of immediate value other than scrap. Once salt gets into a material its nearly impossible to remove its effects. Of course there may well be an enterprising soul that would buy up a few fixtures and fittings to sell for their possible curio value.
weighs 114000 tonnes scrap metal is £130 a ton 17m yeah sounds like a small loss, maybe they usually restore bays maybe there are some good bits inside
I u I understand that a large portion of the cost to move her is the enviromental one......not many years ago it might have been broken up on the spot once secured and just reduced to maneagable chunks. Creating an apalling mess as anyone has seen Alang Beach style ship breaking would verify.
yeah its all about the environment oh and the tourist trade, but there must be money in it as there are lots of ships like this broken for scrap, there is a scrapyard near me that used to regularly have submarines in being cut up
When I first saw they were going to refloat it I presumed they were going to refit and mend , your right they should have just cut it up there.
