custom made Minilite T2 Alloys by Compomotive...Read on!

  1. last time I tried to organize a group buy for opening tailgate windows it fell on it's arse due to lack of communication by the manufacturer....which was somewhat surprising.
Recently, I've been looking into the potential for having some alloys made to spec with the correct centre bore, offset, width etc for Late bays. Spoke to Compomotive, UK company who manufacture Minilites in house....they can do 15 or 16 inch 8 spokes, 5.5 or 6J ET 39, 112 PCD, 68 Centre bore for around £600...now It's only a provisional thought, but if I reckon if they were to make a few sets, the price may come down to what you'd expect to pay for full set of decent empi 5 spoke copies....Remember these would be custom made....not something that fit's but messes with your handling....16 inch would offer potential to fit new style commercial rated tyres...

I've no interest whatsoever in making money from any venture, but thought that others may be interested...1 set £590.....100 sets Who knows?

What do you mean by "potential to fit new style commercial tyres"?
You can already fit these to 14" or 15" wheels.

  3. 16 inch is a good halfway house and shouldn't pose any clearance issues....and there are more 16 inch commercial tyres available
The crucial spec is the ET and Width tbh

    Oh right.
Plenty available in 14 or 15 though.
What sort of number would you need to get a decent discount? 100 sets is unrealistic I'd guess.

  5. That's the rub...I simply don't know....if there seems to be enough interest, I'd get back to Compomotive and see what they could do. It just struck me as a bit daft that any bay owner wanting to change out their stock wheels have to make do with something that fits but isn't ideal...

    Really?
I thought there were dozens of wheel types made specifically for bays?

the offset on most aftermarket alloys is way out, which means that the wheel doesn't sit right in the arches and alters the track width....hence all the posts regarding poor handling/heavy steering/ clearance issues when lowered etc. Working on the premise that VW knew what they were doing when they designed the wheels for the bus, any aftermarket wheel with the same fitment and profile (bar diameter) wouldn't alter the handling characteristics
