Comments further down on that post suggest he built some blanking plates to cover the vents while driving so perhaps not so ill thought out?
He probably didn’t understand the intricacies of an aircooled engine, thought it looked good and then his error probably got pointed out to him and he re modified it. We all had to learn I suppose!
