Devon roof canvas replacement

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by sav_1975, Aug 8, 2021.

  1. Hello,

I think I’ve got a Devon pop top on a 1972 crossover bay whose canvas needs replacing. does anyone have any tips for this or is it just patience to remove all the rivets at the bottom and nails at the top.
I have tried to look for replacement roof struts, but I have been unable to find any for this roof type. Any suggestions ?

    Don’t think that’s a Devon roof

They fitted all sorts over the years, I believe they'd even let you supply it.
This was a Devon. Looks similar but ugly.

Ton answer the question though - yes.
IMO those strips would be better inside the canvas.

    That’s a Danbury for sure.

Definitely looks like a Danbury roof rather than a Devon

  8. Yeah that’s definitely a Danbury. I’ve got one exactly the same.

  9. A lot of patience to keep the stripes level, plenty of stretching and a warm day ![IMG]

@Podrr I think you fitted gas struts after I did this iirc?

  10. Does anyone know where to buy the aluminium strips that hold the canvas down?
Mine had narrow strips of ply to hold the canvas down but those aluminium strips look to be a nicer solution.
