Dipstick boot

  1. Can anyone recommend a supplier of good quality dipstick boots?

The normal suppliers seem to be knocking out really really poor quality ones. The one I've bought has started to split slightly stretching it over the filler neck. I don't want to keep going with it because to be honest it feels such shocking quality rubber.

  2. Cool air
No problems with mine as yet.

  3. I made my own......hose pipe. Worked a treat....stretched one end to fit Bugger to get on though.

  4. Regardless of which one you go for (think there is likely only one manufacturer) soak it in boiling water first and smear the inside with oil prior to installing. Get a pair of proper fuel hose clips to do both ends up snug. This will then stop oil passing the seal, as once oil starts to leak it will continue to do so. I've bought various from different suppliers and they have all been of same quality and I've not had an issue with one leak yet.

  5. Buy a new one
Make a plaster of paris cast from it
Cover the plaster of paris cast with sugru
Leave for a day or so to cure
Then use warm water to disolve the plaster of paris

You would then have a silicone boot that shouldent degrade

Im going to try this with some cv boots as the ones available at the moment dont last more than a year

  8. Cheers guys.

I agree @Joker, they all seem to be the same. The rubber just feels like recycled jonnys.
