In my other life away from Tilly I am Taxi driver. Like anyone else you try to save when and where you can especially on fuel. Picked up a nice little number on Monday Cambridge to Bognor Regis, put some fuel in the tank at an Esso station in Cambridge £1.46 per litre expensive even for Cambridge. Drove to Bodgor 145 miles and filled up at an Esso station on the outskirts on the way home £1.33 per litre 13p a litre cheaper a whopping £7.80 cheaper on a 60 litre tank full, same distributors, 145 miles apart Does not make sense Even Newmarket, cheapest fuel £1.40 per litre Bury St Edmunds £1.36 cheapest take a deeper look one tank full 60 litres a saving of £2.40 per tank three tanks per week £7.20. In one month a saving of £31.20 which gives you £374.4 in one year, your road tax. Now that makes sense
price fixing in certain areas is well known, i'd imagine less outlets in the expensive place so they can ramp up the costs. until recently we had 3 petrol staions in rugeley, all charging a good 3p more than Lichfield which has a Tesco..... now rugeley has a Tesco the fuel has dropped to match.... I paid £129.9 this morning.
Every time I see a BP station it is always 2 - 3 pence dearer that other providers, does BP stand for Blo**dy Profiteering?
^^^WHS^^^ Our local garage charges £143.9 (10p ott) because he knows the next nearest place is miles away and you'd use £3 getting there and back. No-one's gonna bother.
One of the dearest stations I've ever driven past is practically outside Stanlow oil refinery!!! Image date (bottom left corner) July 2012... http://goo.gl/maps/2wUBb Petrol is currently going for £128.something at my local Asda.
Yea but it sad when someones drives 1o miles out off their way to save 3p per litre. I've been using branded fuels most off this year in my diesel van and have seen better performance and better mpg so in the long run it might seem dearer but may be saving you in the long run. 2 days a week my BP discounts their fuel to match or usually better than morrisons. Have a guess what day off the week I go in?
You don't want to be filling up on the motorway services then. I regularly stop on services that have a BP on the m6 note the price and look over the fence at the next junction and see a BP station 10 or 12p cheaper, It's on the junction and just a few miles further on, but you can't see it from a car!
I fill up the diesel car at Tesco usually as there isn't a lot of choice. I commute and always drive the same. The onboard computer tells me the mpg. I filled up with BP and the computer said I was getting 5-10 extra mpg. I'm a sceptic so I'm still not quite believing it, but if that right it's cheaper to pay more for BP diesel.
I usually use branded fuels, Shell Esso the main ones and get a good return Mpg, I see no increase using BP but less economy when using non branded. What got me most was both Esso both diesel but miles apart in prices. Yes a local BP garage here does special deals but you have to be quick. I certainly do not drive 10 miles to save 3 pence but keep good mental notes as to who charges what.
