Just fitting up the new door membrane and wondered what stops the water and damp coming in through the sliding fresh air vent ? seem to remember VW fitting a double membrane maybe. If anyone has a pic so I could replicate it that would be great.

  2. You need an extra "skin" that flaps down behind the door vent, or water will get in.

Thanks for the reply back . Does that not stop the air flow ? Cannot exactly visualise it but kinda know what you mean .

  4. Not really. There’ll be a gap at the side. The vents suck, rather than blow.

Ah I see .So you make a rectangle shaped flap , glue down three of the sides but keep the fresh air flow end open .

  6. I just taped mine at the top edge with waterproof duct tape so it hangs down behind the vent. Seems to work.

Only picture I could find. You can just about see the line where I’ve glued the flap along the middle of the membrane. It’s probably longer than it needs to be, but nothing wrong with a long flap!

  10. i did one a little while back.....
I started by doing the flaps that go behind the vent and another down by the feet in case of speekers and then a complete cover over the whole door.
double sided tape and plastic dust sheeting did the trick

If you have access to a heat sealing machine, as used to seal plastic bags, it's a much better way to seal the extra flap on to the main membrane. If you're near Bourne in South Lincs, I have one and would be happy to do it for you.

  12. Quite disappointed that you didn’t fit central locking while you had the door cards off...

  18. Our 3 year old daughter spent ages looking for the button to put the window down when she first sat in the front!
