Cheers Paul. Oh yep I'd forgotten you'd gone down there previously. We'll have to have a chat about that next Friday if I manage to get to Techenders. Now a speeding fine is something in our buses
We've also done Frejus, but Turin was a bit of a mental intro to Italy after the tranquility of France. Last time we went down through the Black Forest and along the Bodensee, Lake Constance. The Zeppelin museum is a fab attraction and the scenery as you head towards Austria is stunning. Head towards Innsbruck and then make your way south east towards the Plöcken Pass. You will NOT be disappointed.
We are going down this May but will be coming back up through Switzerland at some point in July so keep a lookout on this thread and we might be able to meet up going in opposite directions
From there it's an easy route to Trieste and the Adriatic ferries to Igoumenitsa or Pireus. Stay in Barcola in Trieste where there are a few places allocated to an Area De Sosta or Aire as in France. Fresh water is from a standpipe nearby and the free camping places are right in front of the marina berths. It's a short walk in to the city centre. We loved Trieste and stayed in the spot for 5 days exploring before getting the Igoumenitsa ferry...
Thanks Busmonkey that's great info. We are going to try to get a little bit up into Albania, have a few days in Ksamil and then get the ferry from Vlore to Brindisi but fall back option is igouminitsa ferry across. Will definitely look at stopping at that Triest site. You going Techenders?
I hope you go through with this adventure! This time last year I was sceptical and nervous of doing three weeks around Scotland, once we got settled into Invercoe and had a beer, having witnessed Glencoe, it was a different ball game and we both had a superb holiday. As with Paul, I cant wait to see how you get on!
Yeah, we'll have the laptop and the 12k odd pictures we took on the last Peloponnese trip...plus beer!
Rhone Valley route is OK. If you fancy a bit of hilly stuff you can go via Chamonix to Geneva. From memory only the first 5ish miles of the Chamonix route are steep, but it's quiet and good roads. I'd also recommend Jura and Alsace. Peaceful compared to the hot spots.
Hi Folks, we are rolling. This is the outline plan of our route. We are taking our time and currently on day 3 in Germany on our way to Frankenberg for some decent wiesen bier
we once had to get towed off the Col de La Forclaz, heading from Martians to Chamonix. It was fine in Martigny but started snowing going up until we were just sliding. Thankfully we managed to get onto an emergency lay by bit and call breakdown who towed us back down . A night in the cheapest hotel in Martigny then attempt no. 2 whilst the sun was on the Col. Managed to make it to Chamonix with just a few stomach tightening wheel spins! It was October tho
Only just done that route earlier this year albeit in a A4 quattro. Had a good raclette for lunch at the La Ferme trois Ours on our way back into Chamonix.
Made it as far as Lake Balaton in Hungary so far. 1500 non motorway miles in 2'weeks, 6 countries so far, and the old bus is behaving well. (Had a bit of a mare trying to get my handbrake working and then made myself work by over adjusting and getting a binding brake shoe and a brake drum that didn't want to come off but all sorted in a field in Slovakia, thanks to stuff learnt at Techenders !!
Still going. Dora the old bus has made it to Sozopol on the Black Sea in Bulgaria so far. We found an ace parking spot in the Marina, snuggled up next to Davina (the Superyacht not McCall ). £8 per night with posh bogs and showers
