Engine hatch measurement required.....

Could someone please measure the height of their engine hatch opening & let me know.

The outer frame is 34.5 cm, inner 31 cm. Anything else you need whilst I've got it apart?

Could someone measure from the upper panel (where the engine lid hinges screw onto) down to the top edge of the striker (where the engine lid catch hits).

Has anyone ever cut their own "hatch" in the engine bay roof to gain access for fiddly jobs?

A few have, usually using a transplanted hatch from another bay or T25.

 

If you have a 1600 I can't see the point. Where the hatch sits is pretty much slap bang over the fan housing. From what I have read VW only did the hatch to help with setting up the carbs and injection on the T4 engines.

 

Are you sure that's to the top of the catch? It seems about 20mm too much

 

Just as well they did, my heart sinks when I get a 72 with 1700, eber in the engine bay and no hatch in ze verkshop.

 

what the hatch that's right above that engine bolt and the wiring for the regulator

 

Like the Polish idiot who owned mine before, from what i can see it was only done because he couldnt be arsed to fit a slimmer air cleaner, now im trying to refit it
