Taking nothing away from Lando or the team but once again a fabulous result was dictated by a lucky pit stop.... Unfortunately the organisation running F1 have bought the rights to MotoGP so expect the rulebook to be manipulated for TV - oh - hang on , new rules next year apparently of which I have zero interest for the last few years since the introduction of aero wings , ride height and the 'long lap' penalty . Pit stops at the moment are to change bikes for a change in the track conditions mid race which sort of works but gives the organisation an opportunity to develop that idea - manipulation for the TV masses Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Lando's come close to winning before and had bad luck so its only fair that sometimes things go your way. TBH although he got a benefit from the s/c the reality is that Max couldn't close up to him, let alone overtake which is a huge thing for this year - red bull have been way out in front all season but this race showed that they can have an "off" weekend, but also mclaren taken a big step forward, and Lando's talent shone through - what a great driver - future world champion i think.
Did you watch Wacky Races as a kid? First time i saw Graham Hill with his trademark moustache i though it was Dick Dastardly.. true story
@Lasty is right though, when blind luck decides the close races and internal politics decides the close championships (FI has a long history of this) it's a bit of a farce.
Verstappen should have got a penalty for having his nose alongside Lando on the SC restart, which is a rule they brought in because he kept doing it. They let it go because Lando was away quickly and Max couldn't catch him. Will be interesting next race to see if McLaren can keep the run of form going.
I only saw the highlights and didn’t follow the detail this weekend, but I wonder if the red flag in FP1 and sprint race meant that Red Bull didn’t set the car up well for the hard tyre. I would be surprised if Mclaren has suddenly caught (half second per lap) and exceeded Red Bulls pace (another half second per lap?).
I flew into Miami last week. My flight was chock full of F1 mechanics, literally hundreds of them. They were all about 12 years old.
@Lasty Ahem... https://www.motogp.com/en/news/2024/05/06/welcome-to-the-future-of-motogp-new-bikes-in-2027/497238
First time I've actually seen a clear description of the changes as I stopped reading all the speculation last year Looks like they're taking a step backwards from the rider aids and aerodynamic junk which isn't a bad thing but reducing capacity by 150cc to 'slow the bikes down ' ?? . There'll be more tech manipulation to come once the organisation realises teams will ALWAYS bend the rules for an edge . I honestly can't see me whipping up any enthusiasm for the new series, dull riders , dull bikes and a cast of thousands in multi million pound dull teams ... Look at the 'progression' of F1 - ex drivers/pundits who desperately need something to talk about so build up rivalry which doesn't really exist as they're all riding the same gravy train . Hero riders ?? first watched Wayne Gardner riding a sit-up-and-beg Marowaki Kawasaki at Scarborough, awesome , and beating most of the established stars working on his own from the back of a Transit van . Total polar opposite of today's MotoGP 'stars' they've been groomed from a very young age , even down to interview techniques and toeing the PC line .... dull .... dull ..... DULL !!
