Factory bus louvre or sliding window question???

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by vanorak, Oct 13, 2013.

  1. Can someone tell me categorically which way a sliding window should be fitted?
I've not got my bus here, so can't have a look, but a while ago I bought a sliding window from a Riviera. Dismantled it, renewed the scraper seal and felt channel then swapped the glass round so it will fit on the driver's side....ie sliding pane at the rear, (innermost), front pane overlaps (outermost).

I've just been looking at a pic of a similar slider but now I'm a tad confused...all these windows can be taken apart fairly easily, and re-jigged to suit RHD/LHD, but the bit I'm struggling with is the profile of the frame.

It's offset __I____ so which side faces outwards? Or am I being dim? Factory bus

    Thanks in advance....

  2. Sorted....just googled Riviera and found some close-ups on youtube...the offset faces outwards:thumbsup:

  3. What do you think , out of interest @vanorak louvre or sliding, I want to get a second hand lourve window but hear they are prone to leaking ................what are your thoughts on the sliding window , better ?

  4. I'd say jealousies are less prone to leaking over sliders due to the fact rainwater sits in the channel on sliders.

You can open louvres in the rain without it coming in unlike sliders.
But louvres rattle and can be draughty.
    Sliders look better. :)

  6. not if you make windows for a living and know how to sort them out ;)

  7. Louvred on the offside, slider on the nearside

I've got a slider in my sliding door and a louvred over the cooker - gives me the option of stopping the steaming up if it's raining or having the slider open to allow the dogs fresh air/music from van to go into awning.

  10. I'm replacing my Devon Louvre, not because I don't like it, but because I've now fitted a Cramer stove and sink, with glass lids, which clear the window frame, when opened, but only just. I dismantled the Louvre, and rebuilt it...no draughts. leaks or rattles...
Louvres better in the rain, sliders at all other times, if you've got a mosi screen, IMO.

Shame no one's put some money into developing a full set of double glazed pop-outs for the Bay...better still...with internal blinds:D...how good would that be?
If anyone is refurbing louvres, sliders etc. I found some companies that do the felt channel, rubber strip and draught excluder....I'll dig them out and post a link. I know the company that does the draught excluder goes by the name of "The Hairy Worm"....I kid you not...google it![IMG]

  14. I'm about to sort out my sliders and need the top outside rubber strip for both windows. Any info would be great.

  15. ooohh can you take pics... oops no wait just looked at your van they are the later ones... I have the Riviera 72 ish to 77 ish ones.

  16. unless this is available as an OEM part, then you need to remove it and compare the profile with those available from seeal suppliers...Phoenix Trim is my personal favourite, but Seals Direct is also very good...
As this seems to be an ongoing issue for bus owners, it might make for a good Sticky resource, ie seals/profiles available according to window style/make/year
