First Trip.......wish me luck! (and what should I take with me?)

  1. Hi Folks,

So after 4 years of restoration Im taking Davina on her first trip! Im heading towards West Wales (from Swansea) and the plan is to head to Cardigan head up the west coast to Aberystwyth and then inland to a nice campsite.

Ok so as I say the van has been rebuilt and my Dad has been user it as a daily driver since his Audi's oil pump and turbo went bang, so far no issues.

The van has camping interior (cooker, sink, fridge, storage table, bed etc) and I will have a GPS a phone, RAC breakdown (with onward). So question is what else shall I take to ensure things go well????

Also any ideas on things to see along the way? Im from Wales but not been down that way since I was a kid!

Heater ? Oil filled radiator works best for us.

  5. Cheers rickyroo - have looked at a few sites but haven't decided where yet so will give that one a browse later - and yes all of Wales is nice

Hi Bern, Ill be staying somewhere with Hookup so was gonna take some form of plug in heater for the night, i have both halogen one (the one that swivels) and a plug in mini radiator, i think the rad will be safer but the halogen will blast the heat where we need it.....

  6. As a minimum you should think about taking a replacement coil, condenser, plugs, cab door, deformation panel, short block, heads, enough food and water to support two people for a fortnight (Chances are one of you won't survive so there'll be food for a month), a large aggressive dog and a small bore rifle with ammunition.

    I wish you luck.

I'd go for the rad - can leave them on turned low all night safely.

the halogen ones are horrid in the dark though the glare is nasty - oil filled or a little fan one is best, we put the halogen one in the awning to use as a light/heater.

oh and being Welsh don't forget to take matches so you can burn any English holiday home you come across.

  15. Ricky - I had my first trip recently - Enjoy.
    Essentials -

Knives and little chopping block so that you don't mark your nice surfaces.
Cheap placky washing-up bowl. Don't use the sink in the van, you only have clean it and fill the water tank!
Box of wine for the missis. - Cheaper and more camping friendly than a bottle and you get 3 bottles worth in one box.
Wind break for when you sit outside. keeps you much warmer and gives privacy. I don't have one but missed having one.
A little camping stove so you don't smell out the van and don't have to clean your nice clean cooker. its great cooking outdoors. Mine cost £2.50 from Asda plus 8 refills for £8 at go outdoors at present.
A lantern. On sale at Argos a wind up rechargeable one, that also works on 240v and 12v.
    A bucket for night-time weewees.
Maybe a groundsheet so you don't trudge mud into the van.
    Music.

  16. No one mentioned booze!
