Fitting Slider Track Cover

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Owen Snell, Jul 2, 2013.

  1. The painter has my van back to finish off the last parts, one of which is the cover for the slider track. He's having trouble fitting the locking strip into the recess and then fitting the cover - not enough room to get the cover in when the locking strip is in place. Any hints for getting this fitted? I will sort it myself when I get the van back at the end of the week.

the black plastic finisher thing? i just put a squirt of silicone in the track recess and banged it down with my hand - 'twas tight but it went.

  3. I find it easiest to fit the plastic strip to the cover panel first then fit the pair into the channel.

Is yours an early then? With steel tightenable locking strip? Loosen the tensioning screw, push it right back and bobs your uncle. It the u-channel that supports it has been replaced, discard the locking strip as it'll won't fit. If you mean the plastic trim, ignore me.

Late owners won't recognise this as half the bits went missing missing on lates to save VW money.

    Definately this. :)

  6. I found I had to cover the paint with masking tape and tap it down with a soft hammer. The grippy strip grips tightly.

  7. Yes, it's the tightenable locking strip. I can see why they decided it's not needed, but anyway, I can have a go when I get the van back as I reckon I can make it fit!
