Front chassis leg fabrication

  1. Hi all,
I'm spending the weekend working on the bus. I'm in the middle of fabricating I new section of front chassis leg.
This is the offside section of a UK RHD bus.
What is the purpose of the holes?
I can see the biggest one on the left lines up with the brake pedal, where it pivots through the inner section of the chassis... Is the hole needed?

What about the other 2? I can't see a need for them!
I'd rather leave the chassis solid as the holes just allow in more water etc.

    Cheers :)

Hope you're all enjoying the weather

Think they are for when the turbo kicks in to keep it more streamline when cruising at 89 mph lol. I'll have a look when I get home buddy

  3. If you've got a later Bay with the deformation panel, the holes may be so the "Y" leg folds up/crumples in an accident. Apart from that, I can't think of a purpose. A hole-less leg should be fine.

  4. Ok cool. I indented the inside to allow enough room to remove the brake pedal arm thing and welded it on :D

    Thanks
