front spoiler

  1. was reading the latest issue of camper and commercial and there is a 1979 westie and it has a spoiler/splitter fitted under the front bumper and i wondered if anyone knew who made these and if they are avalable?

  2. Made by VolksCraft Design in the mid to late Seventies.....I did look up their old address in Leeds a while ago but everything indicated they were long gone.
Sometimes they do appear on EBay.
Took mine off the other day to clean up some bodywork....looks quite naked without it. I shall now duck below the parapet to avoid mocking laughter etc from those who hate them! :D

  4. I had one... I bought it to take a mould from, but I lent it to someone who conveniently "lost" it!! o_O

Ok on stock height busses, but even with a moderate lowering it places it very close to the ground!!

  5. Agreed even at stock height it is possible to ground it if a wheel drops into an unexpectedly deep waterfilled pothole. Did that but was lucky the owner of the carpark paid for the repair.
Since the underdash plastic moulded trays have re-appeared, just not quite to the model marketed by Onnexe in the Seventies, I'm surprised that the spoiler hasn't made an appearence....maybe of course that they became one of the long forgotten bolt ons for these vans .

  6. The Northern classics version looks very similar to the original! Well spotted I thought it was an idea that had just died out...evidently not :)

  7. I think if I got hold of a kamai one for a beetle, I could cut it and widen it... would give something very similar to the northern classics one, but without the side skirts o_O

  8. wow thank you all for the replies, mine is quite low at the front so i might end up killing it,

i was thinking about the northern classics one and modding it,

i was looking for the oem/70's look but i have modern bits on mine

  9. When you pour on those raw 50 horses, the sheer downforce from that spoiler is going to be amazing ;)...

Saw the '79 in the mag, and thought what looks worse, the extended front bumper for the spare wheel box or the spoiler...and the answer is.....
