Fuel Pump Stand Broken and Stuck!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by GRINNER, Mar 18, 2013.

  1. You may have seen this on my "readers rides" thread.

The replacement engine I pickup at the week end had a broken fuel pump stand, as I tried to pull it out is broke into a load of little bits leaving the lower part stuck in the case!

Any ideas to get it out?

  2. Often happens - the bakelite shaft snaps off. Might try screwing a tap or something down it to try to pull it out.

Only real remedy is to split the case, although even if big bits do drop into the sump, they'll likely not be going anywhere.

  3. I don't want to split it if possible.
I'd thought of a tap too, If it brakes up and falls in I wonder if I could fish it out from the sump?

  4. Winding a tap into it is the first approach id take

  5. yeah mine broke i tapped a thread into it and then screwed threaded bar into it and pulled it out

  6. I've also heard of a mate drilling and hoovering it out!
Then an oil flush. I'll try a tap first...

    Cheers.

  7. Before you tap it cake the area with some grease
If it does break up then the bits will hopefully stick to the grease and you can use cotton buds to fish them out

  8. Good tip there, cheers!

Greasy tap then threaded bar sounds good to me. They do get very brittle.

  10. Good old bakelite the first platic known to man
I remember knocking my nans bakelite radio of the sideboard as a kid and it breaking into almost dust lol

  11. Oh balls it shattered!

    Oil flush it is then.

It's pretty soft, you would be unlucky if it did any engine damage, you could pull the oil pump out and flush the debris down towards it with old petrol or similar

  13. I've pored a load oil in an turned the crank. Nothing is catching by the feel and sound of things.
