Fuel tank breather tee

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Dicky, Nov 3, 2013.

  1. The one in the engine bay. I bought one today as ive never actually had one - just the two pipes connected together so I got one. Question is there are two connections that are the size of the metal pipes and the third one that would go to the air box is tiny! What size pipe goes from this to the arbox and how does it connect to the tee please. Does it push in or is there a metal tume or something that connects them together?

  2. 2 holes are circa 5mm and the other is not much more than 3mm?

  3. I think thats correct dicky

Mine came bodged with a window wash t piece so ive nothing to compare for you

  4. Hi Para - any idea what size hose goes to the air box?

  5. are you going to connect this to the top of your carb? like this

  6. Hi there - something similar yes. Dont know how the hose connects to the tee or what size it mould be?

  8. Yes thanks - got the tee just didnt know how it connected to the hose. The actual vents to the tank are 6 or 7mm and then go to this tiny pipe - just didnt make sense to me!

I just used some clear silicon tubing that pushed over the outside of the smaller connector.

  10. Thanks guys. I will. at some point just use whatever. Its probably not that critical but thought to at least try to be in the ball park of what is normally used. Thanks

  11. It normally has the 3mm bore rubber pipe used on the vac advance can... it has a small length of steel pipe inside of it...

    Pretty basic really :)

    • Thanks - was going to use a spare nylon vac advance line and just take the rubber end of one end if the bore isnt that critical. Why do we all get so excited about tank breathers when it all terminates into a tiny little hose. Is it that you need the volume of the larger pipework or should we just rip the whole lot out, do ity all in flexies aand save a Marmite load of work. Im thginking - cut hatch above tank - route flexi pipe through fire wall and the utilise the bits of the system you can get to easily!

  12. or just leave the fuel cap off and avoid driving on routes involving corners:thumbsup:

  13. The breather system allows for vapour expansion and condensing

That's what they capsules are for in the rear corners

  14. i assume that any condensed liquid will run back down to the tank and any uncondensed vapour will carry on up and is fed down the other side into the air box

  15. You got it

  16. Measured my pipe (snigger) is about an inch long and 5mm od. Yep 5mm

  17. Thanks. will have alook and see what Ive got to do it with. Need to find a fitting for the air fiter unless i can find a reduction tee for the oil breather which would be easiest!

  18. yay!

  19. I keep telling yer Dicky...try Steve at Autohose 01782 542 486
is that fitting i got with my weber any use? If so i'll post it tomorrow...
