Headlining

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by Rimfly, Aug 20, 2013.

  1. Hi there,

This question may seem like a no brainer, but I am getting a new interior & door cards made etc, but the original headliner looks ok, but I am thinking of changing everything for new including the a new headliner, as it is obviously old, is there a train of thought keeping the original is better ? Or should I change everything? I must admit I am leaning towards a new one....

    Thanks for any replies

    Cheers Martin :)

  2. what sort of headliner have you got? ply, fabric or other? cab headliner only? full length? tin top, pop top?

what sort of condition is it in?, if its not torn or damaged its amazing what a good clean can achieve....and save you money

I'd say that new headlining - wood or fabric can be as good as the original if done well

I kept my original full vinyl headliner... it has a few nicks and snags which i've stuck down with contact adhesive, but I quite like the history!! Besides, if i had a new one I'd be too anxious to drill things like the jail bars, curtain track, etc!

    You know it makes sense....

  8. It is a vinyl headliner, which is white, or it was one day, it has one or two nicks, I am leaning towards replacing it as everything else will be new

I'd say a new one, the cab headliner in mine was original and untorn, but discoloured, brittle, nicotine stained and couldnt be cleaned to a level I'd be happy with.

If everything else is new, It'd be a shame to let it down with a substandard headliner.
