I am working on the heating on my 73 bus i need advise re the flexible heating tubes that attach to the heat exchangers.

The flexible plastic tubes contain what looks like aluminum mesh in tube shape running almost from end to end , and was held in place by the thin ring in the pictures below and appear to be made of what i can only describe as hard putty.

Those "putty" type rings have all disintegrated except the one.

Also in the picture below is a rubber ring that i assumed replaces the putty type rings and held the above mentioned aluminum mesh in place.

Am i correct in thinking i still need the putty rings ? or do the rubber rings in the picture replace it?

if i need the rings, are they still available , if so where from please

  2. The putty ring you descrive is no longer available but there is a modern rubber ring to replace it

  3. Good question. I thought I had got all the bits needed to sort the heating on my bus however putty rings I do not have. Didn't even know they existed.

  4. Theres always the option of replacing the lot with a section of silicone hose

  5. I can get a pic of originally what should be there and link to the modern replacements if people want
Ive been fiddling with these bits today and come to the conclusion silicone hose may work out the same cost or cheaper and be a fit and forget solution

the white ring and silver sleeve were fubar'd on mine, i uses foil radiator backing and aluminium tape to pack mine out and they've been fine.

am i right in thinking the new rubber bit i bought replaces the metal bits in your picture , but i still need to get the modern replacement for the bit i call"putty"

  11. I just put some jubilee clips on each end then checked no airs escaping, got heating just in time for summer

  12. How can I get one of these Late Bay plates like the one on your signature please? They are cool

  13. Cant spell that world but proper drunken type now

Its not midnight yet so im ok

  14. Your correct you need the rubber bit to replace the metal bit and the modern rubber bit to replace the putty bit
You need the rubber bit and the other rubber bit four times in total

Vwh heritage sell them and probably cool air as well

I did cost them up today and im pretty sure it worked out the same or cheaper to use silicone hose

If other dub rubber bits are anything to go by of late the silicone hose will last longer

By rubber bits i mean fuel pipe and cv boots as ive known replacement cv boots to last two months before perishing:eek:
