I'm considering making Buttercup sing for her supper next year; does anyone have any recommendations on which insurance companies to use so I can pimp rent her out?
My advice: don't. No-one else will treat your bus like you will and it won't appreciate being driven like a company Mondeo...
It's not going to be for general public, just a select few friends and family who I know I can trust.
I used to rent Ermintrude, beware most commercial policies will only give you a commercial valuation (usually very low) not the agreed value by most private insurance. If you have a claim it will be a major difference! You may be able to add named drivers to your existing policy but be careful of 'for hire or reward' clauses....
We considered this for one of the US imports. Looked at the overall cost and weighted that up against the risk, crunched gears, car park scrapes, someone else's sweat on the bed, theft etc and decided against it. There is a guy locally renting out T25's and he ended up with a destroyed engine on a bus and he couldn't prove it was the hirers fault, it ended up being very costly
the other big problem I found is that when you want to use your van on a beautiful Bank Holiday...someone else has booked it already! Not really worth the risk and effort for the small reward!
If its for a select few friends & family, why not call your insurance people as & when they want to use the bus, something like that
I'm setting up a hire business and got a good quote from Alan Boswell insurance last week. I can't comment on whether they are any good as I'm not up and running yet so haven't bought the insurance, but it seems like a very complete package and they seem to know what they are doing.
