    Afternoon all,
Sat in a meeting in Casablanca so as usual I'm busy thinking about more enjoyable things....
The window lifter in my drivers door snapped a few months ago. I removed the channel from the bottom of the glass but cant for the life of me work out how to get the new one on with the glass in situ. Anyone got any tips, as I need to get it done soon or I'll have a cold drive to Leicester in a few weeks for Tekenders!?
    Cheers
    Doug

  2. This is not easy.

You have to first take out the quarter window together with the frame, then take the rest of the glass out. Only when all this is removed you can put the new lifter in.

It's easy to scratch the paint when removing the vent window, and you have to tilt it at just the right angle to get it out. Arm yourself with patience. Good luck.

Dont know if I've explained it very well....
The part I need to replace is the metal channel that goes on the bottom of the window glass that bolts to the moving part, not the lifter mechanism itself. Does it still need to come out?

Cheers PJ, that sounds more like the answer I was hoping for!

    Thats the part I mean!
I was going to use your description at the weekend but its gone!

  7. oh. sorry, i misunderstood you then.

That metal channel is quite tight in the glass, i would imagine it would be a lot easier with the glass out, that's the only way i've done it before anyway. I think i greased the rubber that comes in between to slide it in more easily.

in that case mate, this is what i did recently when the passenger side fell to bits...
Push the glass up so the window closed, then bolt the lifter to the mech finger tight
Drop the glass down and see how it lines up, usually there are some rusty/dirty marks where the old one used to be to give you a reference point.
Sometimes, the new lifters have quite a large channel, i used 2 mm rubber mat folded to fit round the glass and sit in the channel.
Push the lifter onto the glass and get as snug a fit as possible, wind up the window and you can then give it a push from underneath to using the window frame to push against if you need to.
Drop the window and tighten the 2 bolts on the lifter..
    Jobs a good'un!:)

nice one mr searcher! hopefully draft free, glad it all went well:)

  13. Careful prising it off - maybe a tap down on the frame with a hammer? The rubber gripper strip tends to turn to glue over the years. I've never done one with the window in the van, but should be possible (maybe?)

Avoid any point contact or shock on the glass - it's toughed, and will shatter into a bazillion pieces if there's any pressure on a small area...

This is how i did mine last year - simple but the glass into the rubber bit can be a bit tight .

Yep, did it like that and it slid in a treat. Then crimped the lifter up slightly to get a tighter fit. Works a treat!
Now all I need to do is get an MOT and tax and roll on summer!
