How to...install a propex

  1. For all of you who have just bought a propex, I for one would like to think I can be near a camper van without the added fear of a poorly fitted propex or gas bottle blowing up in my face.

This goes a lot deeper than routine maintenance - if you're not competent or experienced with tools this is not something you should try yourself. If you can afford to shell out for a propex then i'm guessing you can afford to spend the group buy saving on getting it fitted correctly. Not included in the below instructions, if you're keeping the bottle IN the van you need a hole cutting in the floor, approx 15cm x 15cm close to the gas bottle so that leaking gas can escape

    :)

For those who consider themselves as clever wrench monkeys, this is for you...

  8. Just bought the Propex gas/electric model. A little more expensive but no leaking gas issues and free once ya hook up. Got it fitted by vdubresto in Bristol and it's the beeznees... Highly recommended... That's the heater and vdubresto ...... ;-)

If hung under the floor in a water tight box; because it's not designed to get wet due to the exposed electrics. Its not mentioned but also consider an exit vent for it eh. In a cupboard or water tight box in case the union leaks. As you can see a water tight box with a vent is a bit backward. It will also have to sit in a box over 5" deep. Doesn't sound a lot but on top of that you need to add the exhaust and air vent pipes bends and the stainless steel pipe doesn't bend to easily. So add another 2" to the 5"

By all means look at the logistics of it but I didn't like the idea of it being under the floor. To be honest where I have put mine it hasn't really taken away any space. It's made me more realistic and given me an idea of a pull out shelf for my coffee things :)

A place I have seen that info like is Zed's espasher heater where the spare wheel well once was. Seems quite logical to me. It wouldn't me hard to make up a splash panel in there and the chances of it getting wet there are very slim.

  13. that makes good sense i was thinkin of removin the spare wheel holder just because its redundant plus needed space for my firetech will maybe look at makin up a bracket etc , :D
