HT leads?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by oscar, Jul 2, 2013.

  1. Been looking on the usual suspects and their leads vary from £12 up to £70+. Which ones will do the job? Don't won't to buy cheap rubbish or expensive ones that are way over spec. Anyone got a link to a good middle of the range set?
Type 4 2lt by the way.

  2. Beru do a nice set. And Bosch.

    Avoid JK freebies.

  3. Cheers snotty. Could I be cheeky and ask for a link to the exact ones you mean. I'm on tapa at the moment till middle daughter finishes her homework on the pc. The sites I've looked at seem more interested in telling you what colours they come in rather than make. :)

  4. Type 1 bosch (there are some brazzy bosch ones that are cheaper, but they're pants)

    Type 4 (top quality german)

Or I also like to use Taylor pro leads - you just have to cut the king lead to length and crimp on the end. (can be used on type 1 or 4, the latter just takes a bit of fiddling to get the leads on 2&4)

  5. Paul beat me too it. I bought a set of Bosches about five years ago - they're still going strong. My God, they're expensive these days ...

  6. Great thanks Paul. Looks like the Taylor's are for me. unless it takes a special tool to crimp the lead? I'm on the pc looking now and it doesn't mention needing a tool, or crimping for that matter.

  7. Wow. Just been clicking through the different colours. The price changes from £30 upto £35 depend which one! Glad I'm not fussy. Lol

  8. You'd think black would be the cheapest !!!

  9. Even stranger. I had some other bits in my basket, when I went to checkout it said the yellow ones that I had chosen weren't instock. So clicked on alternative item (expecting a different colour). And it said no alternative. Sooooo clicked on remove item and the total price increased by £10. Figure that one out.
Not a dig at coolair by the way. Must be a glitch in the MATRIX. :)

  10. Get the £70 Bosch ones, I got the cheap £30 ones, they didn't quite reach the spark plugs properly on the Type 4 even though thats what they were sold as and after putting the bosch ones on the difference was really quite noticeable. You get what you pay for!

  11. Daft thing is, it wasn't that long ago that the £30 type 4 ones were the bosch ones o_O

  12. I am coming round to going for the more expensive ones. The van has always run great so don't really want to take a step backwards, just to save a few quid in the short term. Cheers for the review on the Bosch ones Dubster, I can feel myself getting swayed to these.

  13. For what's its worth. I've got the Bosch ones on my 2l Engine and they are lush...

  15. My thoughts as well, but I can't find them cheaper anywhere else. Yet!

  16. I assume the plug caps are encrusted with rubies and emeralds...

Recall Bosch Type 1 leads being about 25 quid five years or so ago.

  17. You're spot on, as I remember when they were introduced... everything before that were cheap nasty things for about £8 a set... or the "showy" stainless (give you a nasty shock) over braid ones

  18. taylor spiro pro, coolair or Jim at stateside does them. I have red on one engine, just about to get some yellow from coolair. Don't understand why they're more expensive though?
    :)

If the ends dont fall off and they are the right length and the insulation works the rest of the price is scene tax.
