  1. 1974 Datsun 100a. Only people of a certain age will remember these!
Its not my midlife crisis and I have no intention of buying a Porker or running off with a blonde- haha
Anyway I saw this for sale, basically I saved it from the scrappers. Took a chance, hired a low loader decided worse case I will drive home and lose the money on the cost of hire. It lived in Edinburgh all its life only 32000 miles from new, 3 owners within a few miles of each other and well I had to save it.

The guy kept it in a lock up since 1990 for his daughter, suppose it never happend but he usedto fire it up every week or so. Amazingly I took it for a drive around the lockups and it fired on the button. Its been Ziebarted from new and I have a 'lifetime guarantee from kwik fit in the new exhaust fitted in 1990!!! Think they will honour that one?

Got it home and well amazingly everything works. Other than thin metal and better rust proofing these cars will live forever. It deserves to live and it shall be used daily again.
Btw it came with a brand new bumper , not fitted yet. It starts on the button every time and only needs minor welding, so a backburner project but at least its still alive.

  3. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

That's a rather er specialist er acquired taste I think. Please tell what it is you like about it because it looks like a style-free zone to me. :)

  4. Very nice indeed. My grandad had a SSS of the same vintage. Forerunner of the Cherry wasn't it.

  5. Nice one. What colour was it?
Apparently there are only about 11 registered in the UK? Shame they rusted as mechanically the materials used were best quality. A few pop up on Retro rides for the boy racer brigade but a nice alternative to Fiestas!
I had forgotten about black plastic seats in summer! Think I will sew some material covers for them, save my bum!

  6. It had Cosmic wheels on it IIRC but I don't think they were called that back then.

  7. Yes the Cherry was the mk2 model. Erm I cant say its to everyones taste but looks like a mini Ford Mustang , complete with the fish gills at the rear end! Hahhaa - you have to see them in the flesh really. Its a love only a mother would have is all I can say?
The SSS's are super rare and worth a few bob now!

  9. I know. Along with the Toyota 2500GT. There's some very individual Jap classics out there if you want something a little different. Looks great.

  10. They were shrunk yanks really just better made even then. Took a few years before we realise how well eh?

There was one on our street in the 70's a yellow one I remember it with fondness. A friend had a yellow 120y too. Maybe it is my midlife crisis all my cars are from the 70's. i do intend to use this as a cheap runabout to work, I am a firm believer in using all cars daily regardless of classic status.
