How did you get on with PC World?

  6. oh you'll laugh at this .......... I have two monthly payments come off my credit card - one for £6 for the warranty gadgie for my daughter's lap top and £7.99 for what I thought was the warranty for mine.

turns out that the £7.99 is for my sons laptop that was dumped a year or so ago and so I have been paying for cover on a laptop I don't have and not paying for cover for a laptop I do. i don't even remember taking out cover for his.

so i phoned PCworld and was told i had cancelled the ddm in 2011 which i hadn't - my credit card was cloned in march 2011 and the cc company reissued my card, for some reason the £7.99 for my laptop cover didn't start again and pc world send me a default notice which I ignored because my credit card bill was showing £7.99 coming off which i assumed was my pc - doh!

anyways - i have had to shell out for a new laptop and the broken one is in a local computer shop where i hope he can recover all the photos from my hard drive :(

You shouldn't have a problem getting the photos, one of my laptops died a couple of years back & our techy was able to clone the entire drive for me.

  8. i hope so - took them off my external hard drive two weeks ago to free that up for my daughter - just typical. Had a mare today with the new lappy - had to return it due to a software fault ( i hate windows 8) and now have a newer new lap top which seems to be working as it should.

  9. unbelievable - the newer laptop referred to above developed the same fault as the previous one last night. it gonna be hammering time at PCworld at 1100 this morning - the "techGuys" cant work out what is wrong with it and suggested a replacement (again) but also suggested that every time a windows update takes place the machine could develop a fault. I cant be the only person on windows 8 whose machine doesn't work. anyway I shall request a full refund in a polite manner and point out that the machine isn't fit for purpose. if they then refuse to refund and insist on an exchange i shall ask for the store managers name, mention the sale of goods act and mention that i'll be submitting a claim through my credit card and also a small claims court submission. even this crappy old laptop that hasn't been used for three years is performing better - bring back window 7:(

I,m still vista and Mrs TW is on XP and I'm in no rush to upgrade.

Hope you get it sorted soon and demand compensation for your time, fuel and the distress its caused you. Demand to see the manager and tell him he's a cock.

  11. I hate windows, we just had all of our work computers updated from a really old version of xp to an already outdated windows 7, which is slower than the old stuff.
I know they are expensive but next time I upgrade my laptop I think I'll get a MacBook.

  13. well that was easier than i planned - walked in, told the 12 year old behind the desk, he refunded my money on the spot without blinking. job done.
